Minor setback

Post by Ares »

Well,my frends, today i sat in my 406 2.0 turbo petrol road warrior machine and started driving.
Didnt take too much to figure it out that there was missing that turbo whistling and car was dragging its ass.

So,...i must ask you,is my turbo gone?
Could it be that catalysator is plugged so it can go faster or its turbo?

I didn't know you had a tubby. Went in Hangar18's a the 2011 Gaydon meet. Fantastic car :D but IIRC it also had trouble with the turbo.

i must say that, considering how much abuse this car took, its really surprisingly that lasted so long.

not much of a mechanic so dont know anything, symptoms are very slow acceleration,no turbo sound.
Once i found the exact type of turbo but i cant find it anymore.

Bloody hell i wish it wasnt turbo but its a long shot

The petrol turbo's can seize if not serviced well (or the car's been modified for more power) I think there's only an oil supply and no water cooling so the whole thing is sensitive to heat etc. but a standard can with reasonable services should last for a long long time.

I would not assume that the turbo is faulty on yours, rather I would check everything else like sensors, piping etc.

MJB on here is knowledgeable on this engine, he had one.

By the way, check the intercooler it might have a hole in it or the large hoses to it (look for oil leaking around there).

if the hissing is quite audible, i would say you have a leak in the inlet system somewhere, could be i/cooler or pipes as already suggested.
Not sure if its applicable to your car but most modern cars have sensors to read boost pressure etc etc and if it see's a fault may well throw the ecu into limp mode ( ie: get you home mode) normally throws up a eml light though, but not always.

First thing i would do is check all hose's, then i/cooler , then start looking at manifolds, joints etc etc. start looking for the cheapest fix and keep fingers crossed :)
