406 2.2 Hdi Smoking....

Post by MixMan »

Hello all,

Been away driving a Mondingo for a while, but now back with a 2.2 Hdi Executive, which I love more than the missus :-) it's ok she doesnt read this forum....
Anyhow's.....from time to time I get huge clouds of white/blue? smoke billowing out the back, it seems to happen when I have been tootling around at low revs, keep the revs high and it doesnt do it at all....
also when sitting at lights or in traffic I can smell fumes in the car...
There does not seem to be any loss in power or any other fault I can think of, it goes fast and accelerates very quickly...
I hope someone can point me in the right direction and its an easy fix....
Car has done 164k, but has a full service history and had mega £'s spent on it.....
Cheers in advance for any help :-)

if its smoking it could be a boost leak so go round and check of oil deposits on joints of the boost pipes and intercooler

White is unburnt fuel, and blue is oil.

Just block the EGR!

Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Smell in cabin is usually a broken flexi hose. Or a hole somewhere in the exhaust system

...or maybe oil dripping on the exhaust?

Check the cambox breather pipe, (runs along the back of the engine, joins into the rigid plastic pipe from airbox to turbo

its good stuff, but follow the instructions on the tin carefully.
this stuff is lethal to an engine if used incorrectly,!
