Fuel tank strainer

Post by gtv »

HI folks after reading alot on here I want to check my strainer as I seem to be down on power, I have serviced the car with new fuel filter ect and that helped a little, question is is there anything I should be aware of before I start? also people talk about the plastic ring you need to unscrew but I don't have one I have a metal ring that looks like its a 1/8 turn to release. The car is a 1997 2.1 TD if that helps.
Many thanks for any help you can give.

You've probably read this one already: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7355&p=73353&hilit= ... ter#p73353

Unfortunantely doesn't shed any light on the locking ring.

AFAIK there are two types, but the pics on ServiceBox are the same, Maybe one of the 2.1 owners can advise, but I would give it a go carefully.

On my bro's 1.9 we found the ring snapped and held on with a big hoseclip, original problem was someone bending the edge of the opening in the floor to get the unit out, (so the replacement broke too).

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

The big problem with locking rings on HDi's which is much bigger, hard to turn, easy to cross-thread and absolutely will not come through the hole. No-one seems to have complained much about the XUD one, looking at that one I don't think there's much chance of cross-threading it anyway. Is there room to slide it out the way above the tank?

Well I managed to get the pipes and connect off, even managed to undo the ring but there is no way that ring can move to the side or come out so I guess its a drop the tank job. So not sure if I'm going to do that damm French lol
