Glow plug leaking??

Gents and ladies, I have a weird one. I was sitting in traffic this morning dropping herself to work, and noticed there was a fairly strong smell of engine fumes in the cabin.
I inspected the exhaust recently and all was good so I thought it must be coming from the engine bay. I popped it open and noticed that the area around one of my glow plugs is noticeably wetter (must be diesel) than the other 3. I recently changed them so not sure if that may have resulted in a leak of some sort or what. I'm pretty clueless here!

Would this leak release engine fumes from the cylinder?
Would a new plug fix it or is it something else?

I've head a read of a few recent threads about injectors leaking and so on. I saw a similar picture to mine in a thread by doggy which was about leaky injectors. Could I have the same problem?

Injector seal has failed! I had one fail on my XUD too!

Yep... Need to get a new injector seal - they are 6 quid off eBay. Just hope your injector isn't seized in the head but it looks well lubricated so should come out with ease

Haha! I can only find seals for the hdi engine on ebay... off to the stealers I suppose

What injectors are they? Would be worth mailing the eBay seller as he seems to sell a lot.

Also, you cannot use used seals - they have to be new.

Not sure but I'm pretty certain the d8 and d9 injectors are very different due to the huge pressure in the hdi engine! will do! Cheers

I changed the seals on my first 1.9 and the seal and copper washer weren't very expensive from Pug, a few quid for all 4 so not worth searching.

Just remembered, you'll need a 27mm deep socket and a length of leak off pipe as the old ones will be naffed after you remove them. There is a special socket for the injector with the sensor, not sure of the proper sequence but its No.2 from the pump.
IIRC 90 newton metres to torque them back up but it's been a while so double check that.

This suggests to me that used ones are no good? Do they get damaged when removing them or something?

EDIT: rang the stealers there and they're not sure which pipe I mean because its so old. On ebay the leak off pipe is metal for the hdi engine and I cant tell if the ones for the TD are metal or not. Buuut... you did say a length which suggests it's something I can trim i.e. the rubber one... There's 2 pipes connected to each injector, one is rubber and goes from injector to injector and the others are metal and look like they go to the fuel pump... which am I looking for here?

The metal ones come in a pack of 4 and cost 80 inc vat... the rubber one is 9 euro inc vat!

EDIT 2: After looking at a good few injector pipes and the metal ones are all screw on... The rubber ones obviously aren't, I don't see why I'd need to replace the metal pipes after removing them but the obviously the rubber ones might be hard to get back in place. I'm hoping it's the rubber pipe I need anyway!

The rubber one mate, buy it by the metre from your LMF. The metal pipes are fuel lines, undo them both ends and just put them in a placcy bag to stop dirt ingress. You'll need to prime the fuel after so I'd be changing the filter while I'm at it. 2 minute job on the XUD engine.

I would check the rubber leak off pipes first in this case, then the fuel pipe nut, then the seal.

Eventually managed to get the seals off a pug dealer... only to find out he had only ordered 2 of each seal and the rubber pipe, no idea why. so ended up having to go to a different dealer as I have recently moved. I intended on doing this job myself but I'm after getting a new job and I haven't really got time or access to tools anymore.

Anyone know how many hours of labour I'd be looking at if I brought it to a mechanic? Want to change all 4 seals, might as well. I'm worried about the leaky one turning out to be seized in there too, is it a big job to get it out and replace (if it needs replacing!)
