Nice one, so really just a quick wizz about to make sure it still drives then?jonsowman wrote:Yep, we're talking not more than 50 or so miles of driving before the DPF will start to clog up and the backpressure begins to increase. Since it can't regen, it'll start causing problems.twinspin wrote:i read to map ECU first for a couple of days and if happy carry out the mechanical part to avoid problems so thats exactly what Ill do.
Flashing the new map before doing the physical element removal is really just to verify that the new map is working properly - a quick drive around the block would do it!
Thats my cable turned up, thought Id back the disk up before going any further as im pretty good at using them as coasters and making them dissapear but found a trojan in the process
'TrojanDownloader:Win32/Catinea.B is a trojan that steals a user's account information from certain online games. It also downloads and executes arbitrary files'
The path was OPCOM\OP-COM 08-2010 EN\Lpk.dll
Can anyone say if this is normal, maybe a file used to retrieve info from the ECU?
Re: Cleaning/Replacing Particulate Filter
Correct! You should have no EML or DPF light on the dash (you might still have a fuel filler flap warning light).twinspin wrote:Nice one, so really just a quick wizz about to make sure it still drives then?
Not sure about the disc, try downloading Galetto_software.rar from http://www.mrv6.co.uk/software/Diagnostic_software/

Here is a link that may help anyone out there running Windows 7 x64 and trying to do this

Re: Cleaning/Replacing Particulate Filter
Well thats the programming side of the job done....
Used a laptop running windows 7 x64 but as the Galetto 1260 drivers are for use in a 32bit system I installed XP Mode found in my previous post (Note this will only run on Professional and Ultimate versions of windows)
Took 3 separate dumps of my existing file using the Galetto
Used HxD (Bin file editor) to compare all three dumps at a data level and they are all identicle so I was happy there was no corruption and proceded
To be ultra sure during the programming stage I dropped a 240v extension out to the car and ran the laptop with a full battery and on the mains
After a heart stopping 90 seconds the file was dumped onto the ecu
Now I have a copy of my original file and a few other variations i may have a play around to compair them in HxD to see exactly what data changes from file to file.
Took the car around the block and as I've been stuck in limp mode for a couple of weeks it felt great to have a kick again. Tomorrow I will tackle the dirty bit of the job..
You have all been great, thanks for your help and support, I will keep my eyes on the parts of the forum I can give back a little too and endeavour to add something to the community..

Well done, you're pretty much there. Keep a backup of your original map somewhere safe, just in case.
Examining the files isn't very enlightening, though there's a document floating around the net describing which engine maps live in which memory sections, if you feel like looking for it. The ECU is a Bosch EDC15C2

I will, local save, drop box copy and google drive copy, just in case )jonsowman wrote:Well done, you're pretty much there. Keep a backup of your original map somewhere safe, just in case.

Uch im just that way inclined Jonsowman, ill have a wee hunt for that doc at some point. My next thought on the subject is if anyone knows if this dump is stored on a programmable processor or a flash chip or eeprom within the ECU. Thats my next task I think to find out more about the hardware in the box.
Re: Cleaning/Replacing Particulate Filter
Answered my own question, data is stored on a 29F400 flash chip. at the moment I dont have a programmer that would do these but if any of you guys need a ecu de-bricked just let me know and i can sort something out, this is my territory.
Re: Cleaning/Replacing Particulate Filter
My area too actually! Pretty sure it's just SPI or something so unbricking would be pretty easy except that it needs to be removed from the PCB.
Once, I considered getting the 29F800, which is just double the memory of the 400. Since it's parallel addressed this just means it has one extra address line. So what if we loaded two maps into flash, one in the lower address space and one in the upper. Then attach the MSB address line to a switch on the dash? Switch engine maps at the flick of a switch. I don't think I dare try it though!

Ahhh good to hear a fellow tech is on here.... That actually sounds like an awesome idea, ill certainly be having a closer look when I get time.
Well just to wrap this thread up, all seems to be working fine and dandy and its good to know I wont run into this wallet busting problem again! Now iv got my teeth into the car and I know some good help is out there i'll be looking at my other little problems. I'll do my best to keep logs and post reults to hopefully help someone else out
