v6 running wrong
Hi guys can you give me some pointers?
I've got a face life v6.
The engine management light came on on way home this afternoon and car started to act up, got it home and turned it off to phone garage, came back out to put it on my drive and the car wont rev, its like its revving itself between tick over and 1500 rpm, I popped the bonnet and manually operated the throttle sensor still nothing.
Would the Airmass flow sensor cause this???
Its annoyed me and one of my friends has said check the air mass, just after some ideas
cheers all

Yes, amongst other things.
You could try disconnecting the wiring plug from Air Mass Meter and then try to rev it, if it revs up nicely then the meter could well be faulty....otherwise get a diagnostic check done....have a look for someone in your area with PP2000.
Re: v6 running wrong
tried the airmass flow sensor, nothing.
whats the one at the back just below the plastic inlet manifold, looks like a 2 pin plug?
I knocked it while I was looking around engine bay and car got really lumpy(cam shaft type noise) and cut out, unplugged that and plugged it back in and car revs up fine

Re: v6 running wrong
could it be a cam sensor. put up a pic and some one will tell you
Re: v6 running wrong
Is it an ES9J4 or ES9J4S? If it's the former, I'd put money on your problem being the throttle pot.
If it's the ES9J4S, it could be the throttle pot, the throttle motor, or something else. I've got no experience with the 'S so if it's that engine, I can't say anything other than check the above and get some diagnostics on it, paying attention to what it reports the throttle position (sensor, and butterfly position). I believe with PP2000 you can put the throttle body into maintenance position to give it a clean - muck preventing closure of the butterfly can have side effects

Whats the MAP sensor do??
As looking on the net that was the one I unplugged and plugged back in and its now spinning up fine?????

Re: v6 running wrong
The MAP sensor or Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor works with the Mass Airflow Meter to calculate the air density to provide the amount of fuel sent into the engine.
Re: v6 running wrong
what MJB said, could even be the wiring into the throttle sensor (Which has happened to me), give it a wriggle and a clean with CRC or WD40. If you have access to PP2000, check the faults and also check to see if PP2000 is recognising the throttle opening or you can even take off the connecting pipe between the air box and the actual throttle, turn on the ignition and turn the throttle sensor to see if the throttle is opening and shutting according to how you onset it.
Re: v6 running wrong
That's an ES9J4S-ism. The ES9J4 has a mechanical throttle, with idle being controlled by the throttle pot and a separate ICV which bypasses the throttle body. Disconnecting the throttle pot on one of those results in a lumpy high idle and a loud pedal which does very littlepug406nz wrote:also check to see if PP2000 is recognising the throttle opening or you can even take off the connecting pipe between the air box and the actual throttle, turn on the ignition and turn the throttle sensor to see if the throttle is opening and shutting according to how you onset it.
It would have helped if the OP told us which engine he's got...

MJB its the ES9J4S if that helpsmjb wrote:That's an ES9J4S-ism. Re: v6 running wrong
I assume he has the J4S as he said he was a facelift one in his original post. Chances are slim for him to have 'one of those weird 99 model's'
Re: v6 running wrong
They made an awful lot of D9s - around a year's worth between mid 1999 and late 2000 I believe - before they started fitting the new engine so they're by no means rarepug406nz wrote:I assume he has the J4S as he said he was a facelift one in his original post.
