Hi All,
My brake pedal has been a little slow to rise up after pressing for a while now (pretty much ever since the cam belt was done around this time last year). You press the pedal and lift off and it takes a second or so for it to come back to meet your foot.
Recently the brakes have also started to feel a little weak the first use of the day, fine the rest of the time, and the car is also doing the "rev drop on slowing down for a junction when cold" (but only down hill??) mentioned in another thread.
Any suggestions on where to look or how to test for the cause of this?
Also would it affect fuel economy as that has been a little erratic recently, getting 45 one day and 40 the next on motorway runs ( but that could just be my on-the-way-out injector)
Cheers

Re: Vacuum leak?
I would be inclined to check the pedal return spring and the pedal pivot itself as a first step. Disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the pedal to do this.

Re: Vacuum leak?
i had this problem it was that most of the brakes need overhauling and the sliders need lubricating

Perhaps wouldn't hurt bleeding the brakes as well.
I had that on the 406 .. and only sometimes as well. No idea why it did it but never bothered me and never got worse.benczuk wrote:..the car is also doing the "rev drop on slowing down for a junction when cold" (but only down hill??) mentioned in another thread.

Aye, it doesn't bother me either, I mention it as it has been discussed here in connection with a vac leak recently..Captain Jack wrote:I had that on the 406 .. and only sometimes as well. No idea why it did it but never bothered me and never got worse.
Will give them a check / bleed as soon as it stops raining...
