Fuel tank issues

Post by Ady1985 »

Hi all, went to change seal and ring on my 2000 2.0 110bhp 406 estate and can't get the ring to sit right, supposingly warped tank threads, left at garage to have a go with the tank off.
Went and purchased another tank but the sender unit hole is bigger, so phoned peugeot for a new tank, they don't do that tank no more -.- any ideas on how to get ring on without having to get new tank or has anyone got a tank that will fit mine? Part number is 9640092160.
Oh and will a saloon one fit on the estates or not?

My bro's previous 1.9 had a similar issue - he discovered it leaked inside the car when full. On checking we found the plastic nut was split, presumably because someone couldn't get it on.

As a temporary fix, we screwed it on as far as possible, put a big jubilee clip round it to stop the split opening, then tightened it up. It worked for months, even when brim full.

I believe saloon and estate tanks are the same.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
