Post by binnzy »

Hi does anyone know how to test the hydraulic tappets on a 406 110
If it doesn't fit you need a bigger hammer

There's never been any issues with tappets/lifters on here with this engine, if you've got a ticking noise it is more likely to be the bottom auxiliary belt pulley (especially from cold).

Cambelt failure, or maybe slipping a tooth or two
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I think I read somewhere that a serious remap can break rocker arms.

it has been known for rocker arms to fail as they have a brake point in the to try and save the valves and cam from damage when the timing belt snaps or a valve jams open but emp can cause the vlaves to float a littel and that would cause valve to piston contact thus braking the arm but that was only on one or two and at 150+bhp
