Okay its a 2.0 Hdi 90 and its been bought without a cat fitted, someones put a bit of pipe in its place.
Ive got to replace the full exhaust as its leaking, but is it going to fail if i refit a full exhaust without a cat ?
Or are the emissions going to be too high to pass without one?
Or is it a legal requirement to have one fitted?

Re: Cat converter UK rules
Im guessing it had one when it was made so it needs one now then. Thanks
Re: Cat converter UK rules
Check that it had one by ringing a motor factors and asking them....you'll need your reg number....or ask someone with service box if your car had one as standard.
Re: Cat converter UK rules
Yep, thanks for that, another annoying expense to add to the list!
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Cat converter UK rules
That extract clearly states spark ignition engines. An HDI is a diesel so shouldn't be a problem. I read quite regularly of 306s getting through MOTs with straight through exhausts.

You missed the part that states..."and all compression ignition vehicles check the presence of catalytic converter (s) and particulate filter (s)."
A compression ignition vehicle is a diesel!
"Reason for rejection, a catalytic converter or particulate filter missing where one was fitted as standard."
Re: Cat converter UK rules
Apologies to all. I don't know how I missed that. I shall now retire to a corner for an appropriate length of time wearing the relevant hat.

I think the regs for emission controls of any kind now state that if it left the factory with one it needs to be there, working and unmodified.
Presumably this applies to all years not just new cars as they won't be tested until 2017 anyway?
I'm waiting for cars to be tested against the manufacturers quoted emission levels, lets see how many cars are refused a ticket when that kicks in!
Speaking of which how do you test a hybrid without the leccy bit kicking in? is there a fixed RPM where the mechanical power takes over?
As for any hat wearing I think you'll find said hat has my name stitched into the brim but it is available for short term loan if needed
