Engine swap

Post by Ares »

Hi guys,i dont know if i told you but i bought myself a Coupe.
2 liter engine from 2000,its so nice, but i must say the engine is slow.
After driving 2.0 turbo petrol version, this seems like slowly crawling.

So i thought to myself, what if i swap engines, that tubby into coupe?
If i recall good, tubby inside is Garret T25 right?so when swapping, perhaps getting larger turbo in it too?

Image

Dont want to do much work for now, only engine swap and perhaps a larger turbo inside with modified ECU.
Thanks in advance

Is this a diesel? I didn't know they did the coupe with the 2 litre engine, my son would have liked that the 2.2 is to thirsty. I think you would have more trouble with the electronics than anything else, I don't think I would try it and I was a TV engineer!

Ares, Dude the options are limitless it's just down to you skill with the tool's or how deep your pockets are
Yes your 2.0 petrol unit with the turbo out your tubby will fit, but there's a lot to swap over/make fit ie: intercooler & pipes & mounts ect, ect.
From what I know the garret t28 from a Nissan 200sx can be made to fit but WILL NOT BOLT STRAIGHT ON!
You will need adapter plates / oil & coolant pipes & boost pipes + injector upgrades & a custom ECU, the path to power is costly
Cheep power is a 3.0 V6 (210bhp) or a re-mapped 2.2 hdi (180-215 bhp)
2002 110 HDi estate, Rapier in monaco blue! ( found quite a bit more power :cheesy: ) SOLD I've sorted the airbag light :cheesy:
1998 3.0 V6 SE coupe in Diablo Red ( my baby ) sold
2006 206 1.4 16v sport in Aegean blue ( wife's shopping trolley  )

2006 BMW e61 535d m-sport :supafrisk: run's for cover

You have a few options.
Easiest would be to use some GTi6 bits on your engine. A GTi6 head, inlet manifold, throttle body, custom exhaust manifold and exhaust system along with a good remap would probably see you with around 180-190bhp. The engine would be very revvy and all the power would be at the top end.

A 2.0T conversion would be a bit of an issue as I don't think there was ever a D9 turbo? Mechanically it would fit but the electrics would be a nightmare.

Personally I'd do a V6 conversion. See if you can get a rough D9 V6 and swap all the electrics. the engine and the transmission over. It might be easier just to buy a V6 though.

Sell it and buy a V6 or 2.2 HDi?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Bailes thanks, thats a good advice too.

Maybe it would be better to buy 2.2 HDI verson, but they are still expensive and i already have home 2.0 T engine and this coupe with 2.0 16v so was thinking what are my options.

I'd ask the insurers first anyway, a 2.0 turbo coupe won't be in their book so it'll probably go down as modified and you'll get ar*e-raped. Or maybe not? I'd have to ask...

Well, that 2.0 tubby is pretty anonymus engine, turbo is stucked deep behind, even some wannabe mechanic were talking to me that it isnt a turbo engine :cheesy:
so i dont have fear of that,in papers it would be 2.0 N-A

I see all these Zastava,Fiats, etc getting engine swaped so i think to myself, one coupe should get that also.
