New one slid straight in with no need for encouragement.

So whilst it was all apart and I had good access, I took all the lower intercooler/turbo hose off and cleanes it up (filthy dirty with oily sludge). Also made sure all connections were good etc.

Noticed that my flexi section of the exhaust has separated on top, couldn't see it from underneath but whilst I was feeling about from underneatgh I put my hand over the top of it and there was a gap and it was loose. So thats another thing that needs replaced.

So, back to the original issue that caused the need for me to replace my driveshaft.

Seems like I'm just not very lucky, or im a bit stupid. Either way, its not my week.
Attempted to replace the ball joint again, this time armed with scaffold pipe, a breaker and some ratchet straps.
All seemed set up well, but it would not budge for the life of me.

I put everthing I had into it...which then showed, as I broke my 1/2' breaker bar

So that put an end to the idea. I then tried to do the "Chisel method" as I was desperate at this point. MOT is tomorrow see..... (expires on wednesday).

Well that didnt the do much good either, other than probably making it impossible to now use the ball joint socket that I bought for the job (maybe I can just use that to put it back on lol).

Anyway, its all put back together now in the dark and rain because the neighbours dog was having a field day barking at my every movement and it was nigh on 10pm and I have no doubt I was getting cursed at for banging and making noise.

Gearbox oil all went in ok at the top, I just whapped 1.9l (I just hope it was empty after I drained it).

I'm putting it in the for mot tomorrow anyway as planned. That way I'll know if I've missed anything besides that ball joint that I need to get done asap..

Thanks for all your advice so far.

I had a cracking job yesterday...ABS fault on a Kia Picanto...reluctor ring broken so new CV joint required (the ring will not come off from behind the CV joint as the joint is bigger at the rear.)
Undid the big nut and tried to knock the shaft back to remove it from the hub...no chance seized solid.
I removed the whole hub and the driveshaft from the gearbox and took the whole lot to my mate to borrow his hydraulic press....pumped up the pressure, but the darn thing wouldn't budge, got to 30 tonnes pressure   then bang, the whole hub snapped in half
Had to go to the scrap yard and buy a second hand hub and driveshaft...60 quid later I had a good driveshaft and hub to fit to the car!
Customer was happy as the second hand hub and driveshaft was cheaper than supplying a new CV joint and fitting it.

Think yourself lucky you don't have customers cars to worry about :cheesy:

That sounds traumatic!
But good resolution I spose. We all love a cost saving.
I just wish I had a workshop with machines, presses, and a 4 post lift etc.

I'd honestly try anything at that point.

Finally got ball joint done.
Managed to do it while there was some heat in it all after a run.
That seemed to help.
MOT tomorrow. So fingers crossed the ABS message is nothing serious.

Well done. I have always found it to much of a struggle to do the job with the hub on the car and so have removed it and put it in the vice (you need a big vice) which enables you to get a greater purchase on what you are trying to undo, I managed to borrow a removal tool from my local garage. It's quite a while since I have done one of those now.

Yeah I thought about that.
I don't have a vice or a work shop.
And if I took the hub off, I would likely scupper my tracking.
Sometimes I really wish I had a 4 poster and a unit to do my work in

Made use of a rent-a-ramp set up where I used to live. £10 an hour. Was ideal. Pity there aren't more like it

MOT passed now.
Needed the wheel bearing, ABS codes read and fault found (apparently none, ABS is functioning correctly but there is some electrical issue, light does not illuminate correctly apparently. New exhaust clamp.
£150 including the MOT as a Vat free job ;)

Apparently wheel bearing was a pig. So glad I didn't try and do it myself.
