Mystery EML

Post by jonsowman »

So the EML popped up on the estate a while back. Only just got round to scanning it: http://imgur.com/OtQsfHy

Any ideas as to which is the most likely suspect? I know it's not the Preheat Relay, and I suspect not the EGR either? :?

EGR stuck open would give a higher flow of (manky) air?

Looks like you may also have a dirty TPS?

I didn't think EGR flow too high/low caused the EML though? I think there is an EGR fault there, but since the MOT is coming up, priority is sorting the EML.

Wonder if the TPS fault could be causing it?

For now, I've cleared all the faults and the EML hasn't come back...

It is an Intermittent fault Jon, so maybe there was a glitch one day, maybe a longer than usual cranking to start the car to confuse the ' easily spooked' electrics or whatever - hopefully just a hiccup...

I do remember Alex changing his TPS one day and forgetting to plug it back in before starting the car - his EML stayed on for decades.... Not something to trifle with if there is an MOT creeping up on you.

Having the EML light on is NOT a mot failure.

See what comes back, Jon.

The pre-post heating one's been there forever - won't cause the EML
The egr message is what you get if you blank it and don't change the software, (maybe it's partially blocked itself) - won't cause the EML
The accelerator pedal signal is the favourite culprit for the EML - I wouldn't worry unless it returns
The upstream cat temp sensor gets ignored anyway and normally displays 752.0 degrees. :? When we removed the FAP, we found the plug disconnected (brown 2-pin plug, somewhere under the servo). Maybe it's fallen out again?

Thanks guys. Eric - I know the plug relay one has been there forever, not worried about that. I'll check the temperature sensor plug though.

Will keep an eye out for the EML coming back and report back.

I do have a spare TPS which might work, or in the worst case, I'll swap the one in from the Coupe to test.

jasper - I didn't know that, thanks for clarifying :)

Intermittent = clear them and see if any come back.

Is the EGR blanked? (It should be!)
