When I finally laid my hands on the correct replacement filter for my car it came with a set of blanks to prevent dirt ingress into the lid of the housing which I thought was a nice touch and also a new rubber seal (basically a bloody big 'O' ring).
However....after much searching I could not find any seals in the housing to replace, the only possible place I could see the seal would go is inside the threaded top but no obvious recess to put it in.
I did try and fit it so it sat around the edge but it just poured fuel out when I fired the engine so I took it out and no leaks.
So my question is...should I have a seal in my filter housing?
(Filter in question is a Mahle on a 2.2 53 plate)

Re: Fuel filter change question
Yes! there is a seal around the edge of the housing ...just stick a small screwdriver in and lever it out...or push a pin in the rubber seal and lift it out.
Make sure the housing lid is tight on afterwards.

Thanks Jasper, I'll have a look over the weekend.
