hdi blue/white smoke

Post by hucky »

i have a 2.2hdi coupe and im not sure if she is ill or not :(

i took a trip in the car to southport yesterday and as i was getting into south port i noticed alot of blue/white smoke. i would get lots of it, then it would go then lots more.

i parked up and left the car for a few hours. checked the oil which is fine and appears not to have dropped.
engine noise did not change either.

i drove the car home, including back on the motorway. which is a good 50 miles. but got no smoke from it at all. i got out the car and give it a good rev when i got home but it seemed fine.

the car has had the decat and dpf removed but have not yet managed to map the car, but its been like this for about a month now. the turbo im guessing has a high pictched whistle but it has done that since i picked up the car. both on acceleration and when i let go.

has anyone else had a simular issue? could this be the turbo on its way out, pipe work issues or the fact that i have not mapped it yet?

Assuming your coolant level is OK too, I suspect you saw it trying to do a FAP regen.

It can do this periodically despite the fact that you have removed the dpf and there is no differential pressure because the FAP control system will trigger regens based on distance since last successful regen, as well as differential pressure. When this happens it will inject additional fuel while the exhaust valves are open, with the object of starting a 'horizontal chimney fire' to burn the FAP clean.

In your case, it won't get hot enough to ignite, (hopefully) and the fuel will evaporate giving off white smoke as you would get from the exhaust of a diesel which is churning over, but not firing.

Recommend you get a no-FAP map asap.

PM me if you need help with this.

coolant system wasnt something i checked but will do tonight. and god you have put my mind at rest. first thought turbo but as it didnt do it on the 50 mile home trip and still drove like it should i figured that must be ok.

as for the map, i have my egr blank plate to fit and have the map, the software and the cables. my computer was just to new to run it. which im currently trying to sort.

but thank you, i think you hit nail on the head and my clean boxer shorts can remain clean :)
