I thought semi-mux cars had the relay but they disappeared into the engine ecu on full-mux cars :?

I agree. I think max was just saying it wasn't applicable to full-mux cars.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Actually, it's fairly meaningless as all D9s are mux, it's just after late 2001 (RPO 9001) they got a whole lot more of it. We invented the terms "Semi-mux" and "Full-mux" as our way of distinguishing between the two.

Basically, D8 is the early models, D9 is the facelift model ( post 1999-ish )

If you have clear plastic indicators halfway up the front wing, its a D9 - Orange indicators on the black bump strip is a D8.

There are a few Which have D8 bits in a later D9, which have been aptly named by the forum - D8.5.. :cheesy:

So basicly it's just another word for "phase 1" and "phase 2" models then!?
