hdi boost issue
I have a boost leak somewhere which is going to be one of the sensors as my pipes have all been checked. But ive started seeing a different issue lately.
Rather than limp mode. When i put foot down sometimes i get some serious turbo lag. And in 4th and 5th feel very very restricted. Anyone had anything like this? Its a 2003 hdi. Has 160 map and defap

Re: hdi boost issue
I also have this problem on my standard 110, boost in 4th and 5th is a bit intermittent. There was another thread suggesting that it could be caused by tps or maf, haven't managed to fine my leak either yet

You don't say what flavour yours is 2.0 or 2.2 but with a 160 map & de-fap I'm guessing a 2.2

Had a bit of a

Have you had pp2k connected to it (if not could be worth asking on here)

Re: hdi boost issue
I have had this on the odd occasion, followed by an EML...
Last time I swapped the turbo EV, and cleaned out the little sponge piece too - seemed to work but mine was a one off.
Have you checked for bubbles in the gunk at the back/bottom of the intercooler?

Not had this problem myself. Why do you think you have a boost leak?

Re: hdi boost issue
Loss of power with limp mode and EML could be the (name escapes me) actuator arm failing to engage at the magic 2100 RPM, this is usually down to a vac leak in the diaphragm which would also explain the turbo lag as the lack of vacuum in the circuit prevents the turbo actuator closing at low revs which stops boost pressure building as it usually would.

Re: hdi boost issue
it is a 2.2 sorry and has just hit 200k. I have not yet tried it on pp2000. have bought it but cant get the software to take on my win 98 netbook., so looking for a cheap laptop to try it on.
I had what I believed to be a boost leak that put me into limp mode but then would work normally after the car was restarted. this is completely different and seems like it wont reset its self. sometimes feels like there is a little boost for a split second. then nothing again.
just had gear box and clutch changed so had garage check pipes for leaks. they said they couldn't find any which is one part of the check box ticked.
I have put it on a diag computer which give me the following codes
p0380 pre-heating circuit
p0245 turbo charger solenoid valve
p0235 turbo pressure signal
p0110 intake air temp signal
p1451 (undocumented code)
p0100 flow sensor signal
p1519 cooling function
will have a check of the swirl flap, and check that intercooler pipes. which is the turbo ev? is that the one located under the airfilter housing?
thank you

Re: hdi boost issue
If memory serves the turbo ev is on the left on the bulkhead, could be wrong so check where the pipes go. The EGR and turbo disappear off behind the engine.
swirl ev is just below the intake, the one on the battery box is for the dozer.

Re: hdi boost issue
Gumby is right, the far left hand EV is the turbo one, grey plug ( my EML light came on today so my little swap didn't work
) I've since plugged the turbo vacuum pipes and connector into the redundant EGR EV instead - I'll test it when I give the car some beans later on this week...
You can test the swirl flap diaphragm by unplugging the vacuum feed on the EV ( it can be accessed quite easily from its hidey hole between the engine and air intake pipe ). This EV is a different shape to the others, and has 3 pipes - unplug the one that disappears behind the engine and suck on it, the swirl rod should lay flat, and go back upright when you stop sucking..
Otherwise, check the tiny rubber pipe that goes between the intercooler and the Denso sensor, these have been known to fail.
P.s. the turbo vacuum pipe is easily reached from the passenger side if you can squeeze between the engine and exhaust manifold, its not as far down as you may think...

Re: hdi boost issue
the intercooler and the denso sensor, where abouts is this one located?
when i first got the car, the sensor mounted under the airbox had a screw in it, this was refit straight away, the guy had been messing with stuff because brakes were faulty.
yesterday i got chance to play, all the pipes are on tight for all the sensors i could find
i removed the 3 sensors at the back of engine and switched 2 of them, they all seem to be the exact same part number so switched the left one (boost pressure) with the middle one. and think i refit all the pipes in the correct place.
doing this has given me a little more boost. but far from sorted it. But switching them 2 has defo made a start.
pugplannet guys, i have got it where its logging in etc but getting error message saying
error lexia
error during insallation of lexia. you have to reactivate to restart the installation
any ideas?

Re: hdi boost issue
PP2k is a pain to understand, you have to remember that what you buy is a bootleg
1. I know FxxK all about computers
2. One of my close friends is a I.T wizz & it took him 8-10 hours to get his head around
, I do remember him saying, Doh! if I'd know something or another that he'd have worked it out a lot quicker.
I'm sorry I can't be of anymore help but after he worked mine out, he told me NOT! to pass on his details as it's to much like hard work & another headache he
dosn't need
Sorry, B.T.W best of luck, it's great when it's working DDD.
