2.0 HDI Down on power

Post by Rob5464 »

I have had the misfortune of a cambelt failure. I read into it on a few forums and pretty much every one said they never bend the valves, the rocker arms are designed to break.

So off with the rocker cover and I found broken rockers, Great I thought; I will replace them and hope for the best. Which I have done but now it's noticeably down on power, especially off boost. Although it seem to idle fine.

Could there be other damage?

If it ticks over smoothly and starts easily its not likely to be the valves, maybe you disturbed something when you were working on it. The only other suggestion would be the MAF sensor, try disconnecting it see if it makes any difference.

I found the issue. The rocker cover breather hose was split at the end and had simply come off the air intake, So it was sucking air into the system after the MAF.

Happy days that the engine is fine. I think the belt broke at least 3000RPM uphill so pretty lucky considering.

Well done for sorting it.

Are 2.2HDIs found on 407s the same - i.e. will break the rockers before the valves?

Not sure, I think they are supposed to but I did read someone had broken valves when I was googling. If its a 16v head which I think it is, the rockers will be twice as much if they all break!
