there is a barrel adjuster bedind the disce, there should be a black rubber plug in the centre face of the rear discs, pull the plug out and you can access it through there with a flat screwdriver, tried to do the same to mine but the adjuster was siezed so dat to take the discs off, not to difficult job, just depends how old they are
if you don't know where your going, any road will take you there
The adjustment hole must be correctly lined up for you to have any hope of adjusting it. Rotate the disc until the hole is exactly opposite the centre of the calliper... and then it's a few degrees forward. It's quite difficult to see the teeth of the adjuster sprocket through the hole unless you've got a decently small inspection lamp but you can 'feel' it's location or, well, just use the force, Luke....
Once the adjusters are set correctly, also check the adjustment on the cable mechanism which lies between both rear wheels close to the exhaust pipe. Don't be surprised if the thread's rusted solid.
You might find that there's a lot of crap/dust/rust contaminating the inside of the disc and shoes and just needs a clean out (that's if you're daring enough to remove the disc.
I changed my rear discs recently and after cleaning and adjusting, the handbrake is as tight as... here, grab my finger....
