What is this part?

Post by CrazyPeteUK »

Good afternoon,

My name is Pete, I'm new to this Owners club.

Can you please help me out as I have a fuel leak coming from a part under the engine cover on my 406 2.0 HDI, I have been unsuccessful to find this part in the haynes manual and also online.

I have attached a picture of the part, my brother said it was supposed to be a new part but appears to been botched by a former garage.
My brother has put some heat putty onto it to try and seal the leak, but its not working.

I am loosing Diesel through this connection etc...

Hi Pete, welcome to the club

Thats quite the picture, its not something I remember seeing on my engine but I'll have a look in daylight to see how mine compares....

I've had a peek online and couldn't see that part listed either, so maybe I can get a part number tomorrow.

Spot on, it's a fuel re-heater. I had a look earlier but I couldn't figure it out but yes, there it is #7, took some finding mind:

Oddly, apart from being fitted to HDi 90's it's only coming up on a 110 that's automatic with FAP (if such a thing exists), otherwise they don't have one.

Price of a rehater from Pug is 30 squids but. as above, why would it need it? Although I can't suggest a nice way of connecting the pipes, I'd say use a pipe from a car without but none of the others look anything like that :frown:

I would bypass the leaking unit using a piece of fuel pipe. You can buy the plastic stuff for a few pence a foot or metre or you can buy the copper stuff for a little more.
I have loads of this stuff at home and in my van.

First I've heard of this little device. So it warms the fuel before going through the HP pump, how bizzare, and only needed on 90's and 110's with Auto boxes :?

I guess the two quick-release couplings would accept a piece of plastic fuel pipe of the same length as the device but if it was me personally for £30.00 I'd replace the unit with new, it must be there for a reason even if it's just emissions or something.

Nice one jasper, I thought it'd need to be a specific shape for the connectors or summink.

I think I'd bypass it and see if I could spot any difference and only replace it if necessary.

Thanks for the information and replies guys!

I have another issue, if you care to take a look/listen?

I quickly recorded this on my phone, I'm getting alot of noise from the engine at 2,000 rpm.
