fuel high pressure

Post by dirtydirtydiesel »

Hi guys,
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction,
On our way back from the Isle of Wight,
All of a sudden loss of engine power coupled with engine management light and anti-pollution fault message
Looked all round the engine bay & could find nothing obvious wrong.
Sat in the car pondering & decided to try to start it (15mins) had passed :?
It Started 8) , drove the rest of the way home very tentatively.
She got us home :)
Anyhow today's the first chance I've had to hook up the pp2000

Fault as follows.
Engine ECU. Intermittent fault.
Fuel high pressure monitoring. Lack of pressure (leak).

That's just how it is written on screen.

Any ideas where to start looking / tests to carry out
Any help or advice greatfully received.
Here's hoping DDD.

Never done this myself. but I think I read somewhere it should have logged some data at the time the fault occurred. Not sure how to access it - try highlighting the error message and pressing enter, (or something).

If anyone knows for certain, please say......

The error message suggests a lack of fuel rail pressure, possible suspects - fuel pressure regulator solenoid valve, rail pressure sensor, lift pump intermittent
(or wiring to any of the above).

Yeah press enter on the error and it should give you more details such as what values it expected and what it actually received.

I had pretty much the exact same message/symptoms driving down the motorway - never got to the bottom of it but it hasn't happened since.

If you look at the engine ecu, either Principal Parameters 1 or 2, (if not it's in Driving Parameters).

Find the right page and you'll see fuel pressure actual & requested, (or words to that effect). You can also see the OCR value, (what % it's running at), for the fuel pressure regulator, and status of the 3rd piton deactivate solenoid, (IIRC). Pump has 3 pistons, but only uses 2 below a certain engine speed, (which I can't remember).

Normal fuel pressure is around 300 bar at idle, rising to 1300 at full chat. Important thing is whether the actual follows the requested pressure +/- about 30 bar, within a second or two.
