Bought 20l 5W30 for the Connect, my 20l of 10W40 seems to have evaporated (all over sons motocrosser chain I expect)
Is 5W30 a bit pissy for the Hdi? needs to go in a 1.5D 106 as well.
Thoughts gents?

Re: 10W40 Vs 5W30
5w40 would be best for the HDi, but 5w30 is fine....exactly the same situation with the 106.
Re: 10W40 Vs 5W30
Thanks Jasper, that's probably what I'll do.
I checked the Haynes manuals for both, the 106 book gives 10W40 but I cannot find a vis spec anywhere in the 406 Haynes, it just gives the oil spec- ACEA B3

That's a proper manual, thanks.
wot you said, any of the above.
Can I assume lighter oil for colder climes?

Re: 10W40 Vs 5W30
I really don't know what to say piglet
,
I don't know if you can see it, in my hand book next to 5w/30 is an asterisk at the bottom of the page.
It states,
Fuel economy oil can only be used in engines designed for it's use (from 2000 on model year)
I really can't see what difference it will make, but I put 5w40 fully synthetic in mine
It's the best recommended oil & I will continue to do so, as I get 5 litres for less than £20.00
Good old ebay
I see by your sig that yours is a 90, how many miles has it covered & how many more do you plan on doing in it ?
I don't wish to be arrogant but unless yours is remapped / towing / you really care ( in a ocd way) the 5w30 should be fine
If your really not sure, can you return the oil for a refund / sell it on
& get some 10w40
I know it might be old timers wisdom but my old man use to say on older, higher milage car's,
Stick with what it's been running
Hope this helps DDD

Strictly 5W-30 C3 in the DW12B
seems that it's getting thinner...
As I understand it, thinner oil means better fuel efficiency at the cost of the possibility of engine life...

I think you're right Diesel, if you're pottering around like an old fart it aint gonna matter within reason.
I do have a St.1 on mine but I don't drive hard.
I bought the right oil for the Connect as that's our most expensive vehicle now.
I would be more concerned about the boy ragging the nuts off our old 106D. We've all been there.
