Oil spec

Hi,

I have a 406 with the 1.9 XUDT engine. I'm currently in the Netherlands and Aldi have 5L of engine oil for 9 Euros. The spec of the oil is 15W40 SF/CD. I can't find the handbook at the mo so can someone tel me if CD spec is ok for an XUDT engine?

CD rated oil should be fine for an XUD, I even use in in the non particulate filter Hdi's, in fact I have used it in all my cars from the days of the CX, that's about 25 years and the engines have been good for 200k miles or more in all of them. The oil change intervals are more important that the oil, I used to change my BX's CX's and XM's every 5k, the Hdi's burn that much cleaner so I find every 8k is sufficient. Never had a turbo failure either.

I thought it should be ok as they are selling it as "universal" oil. Would be a bit weird if it wasn't even suitable for an engine as ancient as the XUD!

I read somewhere that the original recommended oil change interval was 6000 miles but that was later extended. Can't remember what to (maybe 10,000?) or why. I may have accidentally gone over that by some way last time due to forgetting when I last did a change!

Yes the recommended interval was 6k but I reduced mine to 5k mainly because it was easier to remember. I don't know if it was extended on the XUD, I ran 2.1 XM's for about 15 years and they were still 6k. The Hdi 406's I run now are recommended for 12k but I think that is to long. I'm sure that a lot of the problems on later diesels are caused by these extended oil changes.
