best oil for 406 1.8

Post by descanso »

Hi... this is my first post so I hope I will be clear enough

I just got 406 1.8 with 55k on the clock.

As I want to look after the car and get the best possible oil regadless of price, today I went to halfords and got this oil, as that is what they recommended to me: Castrol 15w 40

They say peugeot recommends that oil for that car.

Now, I'd like to know whether the oil 15w 40 is good enough, or should I go for fully synthetic or 10w 40? I really want what's best for the car...

Also, I never had this car before, are these engines reliable and are they burning oil?

Thanks in advance

My 2.0 lump takes Castrol GTX 15:40 or 10w40 nicely. I can't see the 1.8 being any different. Stick to GTX Magnatec for extra protection.

These engines are pretty much solid. Mine has 193K on the clock and with a fresh oil change last week, is still running sweet and true.

Look after the fluid levels, change the oil every 6K and it'll outlast all the cars on your street (Mine has)

Hi.

Ok, sounds good but the reason I got concerned is when I read the description of that oil (Castrol GTX Magnetic 15w 40) I got confused,,,
CASTROL GTX MAGNATEC 15W-40 CONVENTIONAL ENGINES

Protection from the moment you turn the key
Conventional engines (usually engines manufactured before 1990) may need a different type of oil from advanced or modern engines. Castrol GTX Magnatec for Conventional Engines has been synthetically engineered to provide enhanced protection for this specific use. Containing a unique synthetic ester that clings to the engine surfaces like a magnet, Castrol GTX Magnatec protects your engine from the moment you turn the key
Offers 4 times better wear protection than ordinary oils from start up
Provides critical engine protection during start and warm-up periods
Oil clings to the engines surface like a magnet providing constant protection even when the engine is switched off.
And my pug is 1999...
