I have got a 406 rapier estate 90bh, I have decided to purchase a 110bh
estate 52 reg 122,000 miles on clock.
It has got good service history up to 96,000, but nothing for the last 26,000. I have noticed a bit of oil leak at the back of the engine run down
under the under compartment, is this any thing major as i am abit concerned.
It also has not got the rapier emblem on the bottom of the wing near the front door.
I have got it at a resonable price, but he has not got the V5, waiting on swansea, so i have given hime a small deposit untill he recieves v5.
I will then pay for a vehicle check so they can also check V5 also.

check the service history to see if timing belt and pulleys hsve been done..
due around 96000.... check bottom pulley.. and that A/C works... oil leak not
sure about dont think they prone to leaking mine is certainly bone dry... and
when i open the driver front door ... at the bottom of the centre column is a
sticker with 110 bhp on it ...

Mine leaks a bit of oil, if I look carefully there is some oil evident at the rear of the block on the cambelt side near the turbo (not dripping out just looks a bit oily down there).
Also I can get oil gathering on the sump gasket in this picture but I have decided this is coming from the crank seal above and finding it's way down and collecting on the sump. After a long run I may find a single drip here waiting to drip down onto the undertray, in fact it's worse when you change the oil for a few weeks after.

As puggy said, the cambelt is at 96000 so check it out. I suspect it did have a major service and cambelt at 96000 which would have cost an arm and a leg and the owner has decided to do the oil changes himself thereafter or get a local garage to do it to save money.
A/C is a common failure.
All in all if your not sure about anything then don't buy it, there are loads and loads out there.

Have just rang dealers up where the vehicle was serviced,
84,000 - new clutch & flywheel
70,000- new cat
96,000- cambelt kit.
PS: bit concerned about the little bit of oil about just at the back of the intercooler pipe at the rear of the engine.Is there a breather pipe there of any sort, i know its difficult with oil about. Am i worrying to much, or could it be some thing simple. advice apresiated with thanks

Well that sounds good, at least you don't have to worry about thoses jobs (which are the most common on here).
If it helps, when you look at the Turbo itself on the air intake side you will always see oil seepage here as the oil gets carried over the turbo seals. It's quite normal and will find it's way through the intercooler pipework too.
Generally if it drives well, sounds well and pulls well with no smoke it should be fine. Leave it running a while and have a good sniffy round the back of the engine to see if you're getting 'live' oil leaking somewhere - it will smell because of the heat from the exhaust etc. The back of my engine is a bit oily but it's always been like it and doesn't smell.
Actually, thinking about it, whip off the engine cover and check it's not leaking down fron the rocker cover where the oil cap is and the large oil return/breather pipe off the rocker. Sometimes careless filling of the oil will result in spillage which will hang around a while especially as the engine block does not get that hot on a HDi.
One thing you should budget for is a new bottom pulley for the auxillary belts. These allways fail in the end although you could wait until it gets really noisey then get it done.
