Dual muffler or not to Dual it?!

Post by k3nny »

Hi,

it's nice to have this forum back online again, anyway i got a small doubt on fitting my custom muffler tips. my back bumper design is ready for dual muffler tip. the only question is whether to make both of them work or just the left one to work and the other one is only for the 'show'? :cheesy:

i've seen several impacts on crappy installation work to several of my mate's car, end up their car lose some horsepower and back pressure.

i might as well replace my back box with a street performance grade back box for that extra HP and that Bass'y sound (not too loud).
so dual it? or not to dual it ?! :P

The biggest mistake on a non turbo car is when they increase the bore size of the exhaust tubing. This reduces back pressure and effects the torque of the engine.

If you look at a Honda Accord Type R they have quite small tubing and a 'Y' piece junction at the back axle splitting to 2 back boxes.

Are you keeping the CAT and the standard middle box? if so you should be OK with 2 free flowing back boxes. If not I think 2 free flowing back boxes will be loud.

Scorpion back boxes are just about the only ones which give a nice deep sound but are NOT loud and farty.

its only got 160 BHP but its all top end power , you can hear the exhaust note change at 4200 rpm and then it pulls like hell :cheesy: just out of interest i tried a 0-60 mph start last week on a flat and even with my sympathetic to the clutch start it still done it in 8 seconds dead , not bad for a £500 car with 160,000 mile on the clock eh :cheesy:
