2.2 HDi Advice or anyone know a good Pug Man in Cornwall ?

Post by ParisEngLtd »

Hi, I have a 2.2HDi that is starting to irritate me, it's been lovely to drive, a few weeks ago I came down to Cornwall and took a no money contract as there is the possibility that it could lead to a good contract down here paying a living wage and I could move back.

Just before leaving for Cornwall the Anti Pollution fault flagged up on my dash and the car lost all it's power, it was then OK for the first 10 miles or so then the fault would come back and the power would go. After about a week the fault was permanent.

I first thought the car was going into limp mode but asking what the symptoms are on here I don't think it is as the revs aren't limited, just doesn't get there very fast. I have now deduced that the turbos just not kicking in. Otherwise the car drive fine, just like a 2.2 non turbo would, it's OKish on the flat and down hill, can get up to 70 or 80 but painfully slow up hill.

I am not sure if the turbo not kicking in is a symptom or a cause but I think it is the cause of the problem.

I did not have time to get the car into pug before I left Berkshire and now in Cornwall I can't the £85 + Vat they want just to run the diagnostics and give me a report for at least 4 weeks plus, I have an OBD cable and get an error that I can not find any info on (P00C0) and some I can't see (presumably pug specific)

I have therefore started going back to old fashioned diagnosis, I used to work on all my own NA petrols but have never looked at a HDi before . . .

Does anyone know if the turbo should kick in if you rev the car while stationary? I have looked at the two inlets (the cold air inlet and the turbo inlet after what I assume is an intercooler, at least I think that's what the inlets are) and if you rev the car the gates don't open / close at all as I would expect them to. I have checked the vacuum, all fine, I have bypassed the vacuum soloniods and the gates open and close fine if you attach them directly to the vacuum, I have also switched the solonoids around to see if one is faulty but nothing helps.

Could the turbo be dead ??

Any suggestions of what I could try ??

Does anyone know any good pug mechanics in the Cornwall area who could read the code (cheap) and give me an idea of the problem ??
