Diesel 'smoke' from exhaust at high speed seen in headlights
Moderator: Moderators
I get it, been a lot more noticeable since i started to have running problems. Get a real cloud out of the back when the right foot goes down abit.
I think if you plod about for a while then give it some right foot it will blow out the build up of sot etc that comes from plodding around. If its running ok and doing ok on fuel i wouldn't worry too much, change the air filter may be run some injector cleaner through it if you feel the urge to do something.

Dunno where it was, only found loads of stuff on emissions. So, with all this emmisions gubbins all over the shop, can a diesel run too rich? Probably.
Hmm, reminds me of something...
Go on, change it, you know you want to

The other think is the turbo'll be trying to suck the filter inside out. If it succeeds then your turbo will be open to all the crap going, and at about 22,000 rpm even a tiny bit of grit will wreak havoc.Jameslxdt God of 406 wrote:...you will get excessive borewash caused by the unburnt fuel

Yes I will change the filter first. I am silly really - I sit there thinking I don't do many miles and the air filter schedule is 24000 miles but forget that with daily use over nearly 2 years the crap build up will be just as bad.
I've even got a brand new bottle of forte fuel conditioner to bang in there too.

Welly i posted a thread just before the hacker struck about what seemed like excessive
smoke from my hdi under hard acceleration, once i have achieved my cruising speed, say
around 90 and lift off slightly it stops but if i stick my foot down again it re appears. I have not
noticed any power loss but it improved slightly when i used different make of fuel also i am going to have a
look at the air filter. I do know i have a small pin hole in the intercooler and that when the intercooler pipe
split it smoked unbelievably so yet another thing to see to

could also be a stuck EGR valve or solenoid, though the later will log a fault code, but wont trigger the 'antipollution fault' message unless its a 2.2 hdi

hi wot kind mpg do you get from it
mine smokes alot but in worse after she drivers it (never goes past 2500rpm)
so give it a good thrashing and should be ok i take mine in the red line for about 30 seconds in 2nd gear and runs like a dream after that
mine is also high milage so every thing is old and nacked (270000 miles and just past mot no problem)
another thing is the mass sencer gets dirty so when you change the air filter give it a blast with the air line and that should make it better
but if mpg is ok not a lot to worry about
