decat and mot?

Post by philg »

My downpipe has started rattling about ( i guess the gaskets loose/done) so i'll have to take the cat pipe off to do so. But i was thinking that while the pipe is off i might as well angle grind open the Cat, take out all this guts, then weld up the box again before refitting.

But would it pass Mot?

It'll still look like a cat box.

And will it through up a fault light?

Its a 1998 2.0 16v.

went and searched on other forums, If the emissions without the box are grand she'll pass. (stick in a load of redex before the test lol)

Any notion if the lambda sensor will through up a fault?
I dont think it will, the ecu in this thing seems fairly doopey anyway.

the D8 petrol ECU's are very insensitive, and no fault will be logged, the only thing the management does is provide a spark and trigger the injectors. its a very simple system, and i will be most supprised if it will pass without a CAT, it could pass, but its doubtful
make sure its not the shield wrapped arround the cat thats loose, i had this on my 2.0, a quick and easy fix was using a hammer and smashing it off 8)
