MOT fail, Offside steering rack gaiter spilt?

Hi all long time no see,me car just failed its MOT, Offside steering rack gaiter spilt? tryed googling it and seaching the forum,but could not find anything.

was hopeing someone has come across this before. :wink:

406 2.0 pet turbo.

yeah i know i should of asked the garage abit more bout it, but he said only a little thing.
I am carhopeless.

It a rubber boot on the end of the steering rack.

looking at the service box you can buy a replacement kit (official pug) for 20.55 GBP + VAT. No sure what the labour to fit it would be like thou, they'd have to remove the track rod end (may want to replace that while you there) I think.

Someone else will probably know whats involved in fitting it. All in all nothing too major, if that all my car failed a MOT on i'd be fairly happy.

iirc the ram on the steering rack has to be removed. not a hard job, just awkward due to space.

2000 d9 406 executive v6 estate with an auto box, bit of a hot hatch slayer ;) currently munching 'hot' hatches.......

you will need to have the front wheel alignment checked after fitting aswell
