Smelly Screen washer

Guys... ive got a 406 2.0 GLX that has really smelly screen washer water.. ive filled it up loads and loasd of times but the smell is still there... it smells of rotton water.. any ideas how i can get rid of it or clean it out?????

ive let it empty and dry.. ive put in loads and loads of nice smelling screen wash.....

makes me gag when squirt the windscreen!!!

any ideas? anything i can put in to clean it out?

Go to a pet shop that does fish and ask for stuff to clear mould/fungus/etc from tubing. Use lots of it as unlike fish tanks, the water doesn't get recirculated so you just get one blast

thanks.. was going to go to a garden centre and buy some stuff for ponds but wasn't sure who it would effect paint work...

Exactly the same stuff really... The thing is it's designed to not kill fish, so the chances of it damaging paintwork are slim

Alternatively you could rip the tubing out from the top of your bonnet, reconnect it at the driver-side hinge and shove the nozzles into a bucket or something. You'd probably want to hit the wipers with a water pistol or hose if you're doing that though... or disconnect the motor

I had this problem on a peugeot 406 once, turned out one of my mates had filled the washer bottle with milk for a laugh!

Always keep a very strong mixture in mine as it's a cab. (hint- If a cabbie washes his windscreen a lot when your in the car, you need a bath!)

It does seem more or less anything will do, from Jayes fluid to Milton fluid. Here they sell scented screenwash additives, which probably says much about the locals. Be careful with the squirters, mine broke surprsingly easily.

I've just had this exact same problem

I think in the summer I filled the screenwash bottle with water only, and there it sat, for months.

I just squirted and squirted until my resevoir was empty. Then I filled up with the proper stuff and no more smelly!!
