406 D9 Gearshift loose with a lot of freeplay

Post by pumbaah »

guys,

anyone encountered this before or pardon my ignorance on this issue.

mine seem to have recently..... been pretty loose i have an inch almost 2 inch freeplay especially on 2nd and 4th gear...it would seem that even once the gear has engaged, i could push or pull the level another 2 inches which touches the parking brake ...

my main irritating thing is that i have difficulties engaging reverse, on numerous occasions it bounces out or it seems that i can't properly engage it and as i reverse for less than 10 cm the reverse gear jerks out...

could it be the gear linkage cables has extended or is there other parts that more than meets the eye?????

needs replacing....

i've checked the engine bay the linkage and the cable there seem fine without freeplay...

Sounds like a linkage problem to me, maybe at the gearstick end.

I know if the gearbox mounting is worn you will get excessive movement of the gearstick when you come off the throttle and back on again as the gearbox moves about and wobbles the stick around, also gear selection is difficult here.

Pretty rare problem though I must say.

hmm, i see...

could anyone find out how much that particular part cost over there?

it should be a 2 linkage cable.

sad to say, because mine's is the only D9 in the country that is manual, they don't stock that particular part... i'll have to check somewhere else.

cheers

finally found the part in Singapore, cost about 100+ Euros...changed it and the gear shift is back to normal...

i guess the heat or the weather down here contributed to the elongation of the 2 linkages by about a centimeter which led to a free play of more than 2 inches...shucks i dun understand the logic from 1 cm to 2 inches...but am glad that its back to normal.....

went down to the track but decided not to take a spin because of the wet weather...maybe next round..

Levers and the position of the pivot point. If you had a gearstick that rubbed against the ceiling you'd see approaching a foot of free play...

yes yes, it does but this was heavy... and if you plenty of jpnese wannabes along the track whose ego is bigger than their brains, i have no intention of spoiling my afternoon with crashing with another.....

but its not fun when it pours, you can't see the bloody road ahead....

say how often do you guys have track days??

engine oil, brake fluid, radiator coolant and tyres can't last everytime, hence, after every track day we change, except for tyres can probably last 2 times...
