Car Failing to start 1.9TD Exec 96

Post by chill3r »

Hi People

thanks for the help and advice in the past - up until now ive had no problems

the problem - left my car standing for a day and the battery was dead, hadnt left anything on, had a jump start and all ok again for a couple of days - went to start it and DEAD nothing not even a clunk - managed to get another jump - this happened a cuple of time, but it only seemed to happen if i left it standing

bought a new battery for the 1.9TD Exec, installed it fine, started no problems, left it most of new years night and day came to start it on the night and DEAD again, put the battery on charge for a bit and managed to start the car on 2nd attempt, had about an hours drive (battery light fully on, dimming when idle) parked it up and turned it off - tried to start it up and nothing - dash board lights dimming when starting.

what are some of the culprits to this type of problem - as i need to find out a bit about the problem first before i goto the garage

i know i problerly need to get the alternator checked

Thanks

I think you got the answer yourself, winter is the time to find the weaknesses in the starting system.

Probably the alternator, although experience says the battery should recover when it's left for a while, not drop stone dead...

I reckon that's going to sting :(

Seeing as how the battery was draining while the car was parked, I reckon you were lucky the fire didn't happen while you weren't looking.
