2.1td into 1.9td

Post by shelleyamy »

Thinking of transplanting the wonderful 2.1td engine from my LX estate (nasty green colour) into a nice excutive estate (nice silver colour) with the 1.9td engine.

Anyone done it?

i dont think it can be done cos the main reason is that the engine mountings are in completely different places and the 2.1 has a hydraulic clutch and the 1.9 is cable . hope that helps

Thanks Darren, wont the "new" engine bay have locating points for all types of the different types of engine mountings? I am thinking that Peugeot wouldn't make different body shells for different types of engine.

I might be wrong about the type of engine in the "new" car, haven't got it yet, just seen a photo, and i am sure i coud see the clutch fluid reservoir on the top left of the bulk head.
I'll try and post the picture.

I'll give you a clue - you don't want to put diesel in it!

It's an XU10J2TE - a.k.a. 2.0 petrol turbo, a.k.a. "tubby".

Something looks very odd with that picture. Have you got a higher res version? It looks like it's missing the rocker cover! The throttle cable is routed differently to my ex exec turbo too, so i'd hazard a guess at this being an SRi, with that hideous interior (personal taste)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Thanks, that will mean a bigger job to transplant my 2.1td in there then?

Havent got the car yet to check anything missing, here's a picture of the trim, i prefer the none ribbed version myself.

by the look of that last pic id agree with mjb and say its a petrol , there are more than 6 lines on the rev counter and thats all the diesel goes upto , it looks more like the 7 or 8 for a petrol . also it would be way to much work involved swapping a petrol engine for a diesel one , i done it a few years ago in a 405 ( 2.0 l petrol converted to a 1.9 td ) and that was hard work even tho there were only about 9 or 10 wires that needed doing and even then i couldnt get the rev counter or the glow plugs to work properly and i really wouldnt attempt it with the 2.1 cos of the amount of wiring .
couldnt you just swap the interior etc ?
