True, it was always a risk that the other would go.
Having looked at it tonight the same circumstances surround its failure as the passenger side. corrosion around the outer edge of the crossectioon of the spring.
It is a design fault to powder coat a spring then wrap it in a rubber sleeve in a position which accumulates mud on a daily basis. What a recipe for disaster
All WD 40'd and awaiting the new leg.

New leg fitted quicker than last time all okay and test driven.
Hope that is the end of this saga.

Well if I ever bought another 406 I would factor a new set of springs in to the price if it was between 80kand 200k unless bills proved they had been done!!

Mine went earlier this week at 144k.... There were quite a lot of tell tales that it was about to give as the knocking was getting really quite bad. Quiet as a whisper now

Yeah, I'd seriously think about getting it booked in before it craps out on its own
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I agree get it changed. It was blind luck that both mine went on my drive within 3 weeks of each other.
If the replacement colis go its new springs this time.
The mechanic at Peugeot said he regularly does a pair of these 406 springs. Makes you wonder how they get away with that sort of reliability.
You don't see that on a Jap car
