blue smoke under load :(

Post by philg »

I fitted a 406 xud9te engine to my 306, and have done the headgasket in it.

But...

I now have developed alot of blue smoke when the engine labours. i.e. 5th gear, 40mph, accelerate hard. And some smoke under normal heavy acceleration through the gears.

The turbo is whistly but is running at a strong peak pressure of 14.5psi.

I know blue smoke is burning oil, and the 3 culprits i can think of are:

turbo
valve stem oil seals
piston rings

Now the turbo seems to be boosting well and the car would smoke ALOT all the time if this was blown wouldnt it?
As mentioned the head gasket was done, the head was skimmed, but the valve stem oil seal were not replaced. But would these not only cause alot of blue smoke upon startup, then a constant small amount the rest of the time?
So im i facing cracked/broken piston rings?

Fookin long post!
