What's wrong with that? I use my right arm on my handbrake all the time! :P

I just did, at about 25mph - loud screaming noise from both back tyres. I went back with a camera but I couldn't see much :frown:

Get yourself new discs and shoes on the back, adjust it properly, and enjoy 8) (for about a week before it all goes soggy again  )

When I had my tubby's rear brakes done, I nearly wrenched my arm out of its socket when I got to the junction at the end of the road. I was expecting movement, it gave me about 2 clicks before stopping *dead*
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

That's exactly what happened
I replaced discs, pads and shoes late last year because the friction material had actually separated from the shoes on the rear off-side and was flapping around inside the hub; I'm guessing the cables are shagged as there's nothing left to replace.
16% efficiency, what bollocks.

I'm not exactly sure if what I've done is right but it's not got auto adjusters or wheel cylinders to upset. I have a feeling there's not enough leverage in the brakes themselves and the cables do stretch over time so you end up with miles of slack and the actual brakes are the stiff bit at the end of the travel.

It's got to be something like that. I've got one of the cables, just got to source the others.
