Help please HDi wont start

Post by neilg »

Hi everyone,
the other day my 2000 110 HDi decided it would stop working.

Its been running fine with no issues. I had been driving it for about a hour non stop went home, left it for a couple of hours and now it wont start anymore.

It turns over, has a little splutter (at first) then just keeps turning. After the first splutter it wont do it again. Keep trying it but it does the same thing over and over.

Can anyone shed any light? there is definatly deisel in it

Cheers

Welton's lift pump saga

Maybe you can lift the back seat, remove the cover and see if you can hear the pump running when you switch the ignition on (and then punch it if it aint). I suppose I shouldn't jump to conclusions, do you have a fuel cut off under the bonnet?

Sounds like the good old lift pump :|

Try not to keep cranking the engine though (like that Welly bloke said)

Hi Neil,
It's probably the pump, but as they're so pricey I would make certain you're getting power to it first.
Can you hear it running? If not, (assuming Haynes is right??!), check the following:
(Don't do this unless you are sure you can identify the lift pump fuse).
1. Check MF,(maxi-fuse)12 in engine compartment fusebox.
2. Leave fuse out, check you get 12V on one side of fuse holder with ignition on. (If not you've got relay / wiring fault).
3. You could try carefully connecting battery directly to fuse holder socket. (One side goes directly to the pump - if OK you should hear it start, the other side goes to EGR valve, turbo pressure valve & 3rd piston valve on HP pump, which you sould hear clicking quietly).

It's a long shot, but worked on my previous HDi 90 - got it home by linking battery to fuse terminal, repaired if for 50p!

Let us know how you get on.
