Hi there, new to the site but hoping someone will be able to help. i have a Y reg 406 110 hdi, the coolant light on the dash has recently started coming on. At first i obviously stopped and checked the fluid level which was fine. i have then checked the sensor on the header tank which seemed to be ok.
so to my question, has anyone else had this problem and what do i need to do to rectify it. i did read some boards about head gaskets and header tank caps, which make me think i need to get this sorted asap.
any help would be gratefully received
cheers
Pete

Re: coolant light
Welcome Pete!
How far up the filler neck is the coolant? I'm wondering whether it's sloshing around causing the light to come on.
Failing that the sensor may be faulty

Re: coolant light
If the coolant level's ok I'll go with a duff sensor too. A multimeter should verify
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Re: coolant light
its quite high as i topped it up thinking it was low, ill check and also check the sensor, are they expensive ?
Pete.

Re: coolant light
Shouldn't be dear. It's the sort of thing you could grab from a breakers! Do as mjb says & stick a multimeter across the socket! You can prove the point by bridging the pins in the plug; the light should go out!PeteL wrote:its quite high as i topped it up thinking it was low, ill check and also check the sensor, are they expensive ?

Re: coolant light
Is it the coolant high temperature or coolant level?
Coolant high temperature alarm, apart from high temperature, can be caused by the dual speed relay on the coolant fans being knackered.
If this is the case when you put your A/C on, 10 seconds later you will see Coolant temperature high on the message display and the red stop light of death illuminate.
To solve it put sticky tape over the message display and turn the stereo up!!!!
