Deos anybody believe in fuel addatives for Diesel, has anybody ever experienced an improvement in the cars performance? and which kind did you use, or recommend to avoid?

i empty about half a bottle of redex diesel treatment to a 3/4 tank of fuel every 2/3 months
and on £30 of tesco's diesel (approx 30 litres) i return 350 miles in a week gives me an average of 53 mpg.I aklways buy redex at asda its almost half price of halfrauds,so i think yeah well worth the £4 a bottle.

I use Wynns Diesel Clean.

Every fuel filter change, fill your filter housing with it, it will help to clean the injection system better as it goes directly into the injection system.

I use the pro version, about £6 a tin the size of a small drinks can.

Forte is the absolute best, but it costs about £18, the Wynns is very good.

There is nothing wrong with fitting redex or any other injection cleaner in the fuel tank, every three months or so.

I use the forte fuel additive as the garage that used to do all the work on my car swore by it. I was lucky that a motor factors used to have it on the shelf @ £10 a bottle. Since moving from scotland back to England i've found a motor factors down here that sells it for £16 for 2 bottles and the p & p is about £4 so its not bad.

I just add a whole bottle of it to a full tank every couple of months. I also put a bottle of it in before the mot and take the car for a long run and put my foot down......

Gives the motor a good clearout. I have to say that the hdi engine seems very clean compared to some other diesels i've had in the past. Not had any issues with emmisions and it always goes through the mot no problem.

Every oil service (once a year) I use Forte oil flush and Forte fuel conditioner.

I can see why additives are popular with Diesels just by looking at the state of the oil after a few days but some would say they are not needed, some would say that a filter bowl full of the stuff is too strong and will strip the lubrication from the fuel pump

I had a strange experience with a 160K mile BMW 318tds which was fine UNTILL I sloshed in a bottle of Forte in half a tank of juice - something started leaking around the engine and it would loose fuel overnight and wouldn't start in the morning. This all may be coincidence but it all happened after the additive - in fact it rendered the car worth about £800.00 less than normal

One of my colleagues has a similar problem with a 325tds. After literally months of tearing hair out, he discovered genuine BMW fuel fiter has a non-return valve which aftermarket one didn't - allowed fuel to seep slowly back to tank overnight then wouldn't prime itself.....

I always use shell diesel as it contains alot of cleaners and find the hdi runs well on it. And millers diesel sport 4 additive every fill up. Which I find helps with starting makes it run quiter and smoother and has improved performance and economy.

I remember it was the same for the oil fiters only buy a geniune part not sure if the cheaper ones have return valves in them.
