Brake pad wear warning light

god damn grease monkeys (meaning the crappy people that cant do their job not the super ace guys that are realy helpful and wise)

As some of you know i got the car a couple of weeks ago and feel in love very quickly.

Now, the other day i got a warnng light on the dash, it was the pad warning light to be exact, but i then found out this is also used as the fluid low warning and the abs warning light.

It put the sihts up me a bit but i though i'll look into it a bit so i got out the haynes and started looking at the sensors and other bits on the fluid housing and the abs stuff.

Well guess what i found today when i stripped the car down (well i took the wheels off) the stupid arse who fitted the new pads before i picked up the car had routed the cables wrong so they were rubbing on the inside of the wheels, and low and behold they were very very very very worn (2 starands of wire remained)

so i just thought i would come on here and advise people that if you have your pads change and then you get a warning light, check the cables from the pads before you panic (like me)

It's a fairly common problem to damage / trap the cable - a 405 I knew suffered this at the hands of the main dealers, light only came when the brakes were wet. It went back 3 or 4 times under warranty, the guy had a courtesy car twice for several days before they eventually 'diagnosed' the problem.

Also had a Montego which could wear all 3 front pads down to the metal, while preserving the one with the sensor wire

Just happend to me too! Got the car back last week from MOT with new discs and pads fitted, goes for less than a week
and said warning light comes on-albeit very dimly. Had a look yesterday, couldn't see anything, went back again today and found o/s set of pads with one of the wires was rubbing on the inside of the alloy wheel and had partially worn through.
There is very little clearance between front of caliper and inside of wheel rim (deep offset) so taped up the wire and used a very small cable tie to tie cable to the other one and tucked it down below level of caliper-job sorted. Who's a clever boy then?
Having read some of the other probs you guys have sorted this weekend this turns out to be quite feeble dunnit?

Just changed the front pads on mine today. On the O/S there was a clip halfway across the cylinder body to retain the wires, but no sign of it on the N/S! On both sides, mine had been put under the bleed nipple dust cover thingy.
'Course I don't know if your calipers are like mine , (grotty looking single-pot Lucas affairs, still at least the pads were cheap).
