£20 universal induction kit

ive got an old max power induction kit i had from a few years ago, it sounded nice on my focus, would it be ok on my 406 sri or will it damage the engine? i wouldnt mind putting it on for the noise

there's a reason your car has an intercooler - it's to cool down the air before it gets to the engine. Putting one of those induction kits completely defeats the object of it by drawing in hot air :roll:

you on about the universal ones or even k&n etc? i just like the noise they make, but if its gonna wreck the engine then i wont have one

K&N "performance" filters gain that performance by filtering the air less, which results in more crud ending up in the engine cylinders

Induction kits vary in the amount of filtration they provide, but the main problem with them is instead of putting cold air into the engine from the scoop in the bumper, they put less dense hot air in from the engine bay which reduces performance

Induction kits give more power during testing and rolling road days because they usually have the bonnet open and a huge fan blowing air at it.
The enclosed type ones are much better as they usually duct air from the front of car to the filter, but as mentioned they tend not to filer as well as OEM products and rely heavily on oiling and constant cleaning to keep them reliable.

It will probably have a negative effect on your fuel consumption aswell.

My MG has a K&N on its carb, but it has a airscoop on the car which is right on top of the carb.
On the saxo I have a custom scoop which is heat shielded and the full length of the slam panel.

On back to back tests on the saxo during a track day the scoop was MUCH more responsive than the OEM intake system and was able to get a higher speeds on a mile straight. (but the engine isnt exactly a factory engine ;))

Really depends what you are after from a car.
