speedo cable
can anyone tell me how easy the speedo cable is to replace, i have the mk2 rapier, i know it's a job for a garage but i want to know how long it should take to replace
Re: speedo cable
wouldn't have thought it'd be too difficult. The diff end of the cable's easy enough to access on the V6, which is generally a LOT more awkward than any other engine to work on, but I dunno where the other end goes

Re: speedo cable
I thought it used a hall sensor for the speedo, not a cable!

Re: speedo cable
It is, but there's a cable attached to the sensor. Don't think it enters a loom though, although it could just be on a very long spur

I realise the sensor will be plugged inmjb wrote:It is, but there's a cable attached to the sensor. Don't think it enters a loom though, although it could just be on a very long spur

Andrew; are you talking about the cable that plugs into the speedo sensor? There is no mechanical drive to the clocks!

Re: speedo cable
i think it will be at the outside part because i the speedo can be a bit tempramental, it is fine most of the time but on occasions when i start the car it takes a few minutes to work, and often when i pull away from a junction it fails to start moving the speedo, so i am guessing it's not at the clocks end.

Re: speedo cable
Right; quite a common fault this one. Several causes; dry joint on the clocks themselves, speedo control module up behind the glove box and the sender itself on top of the gearbox. I'm not sure of the setup on the Hdi but that's the case with the petrol's. Have a search around, this crops up quite a lot.

Re: speedo cable
Mines doing the exact same. Doesnt work at slower speeds / start up but seems to come right later.
Then again - 1 day in - dont know much yet. The engine is a bit dirty - will start with a good clean and see if I can source the sensor and clean.
