Bit of help please

Post by gazrc »

Hi jall
Recently purchased a 96 2.0 16v sri. all good aprt from a a few small probs.
im not great at fixing stuff my self or with parts ID, on top of the engine there is a black circular what i though was a breather with two pipes coming from it, one goes into the air hose and the other into the throttle, well the circular part is completely snapped from the pipe up, a bodge job has been tried using silicon buts it not great, what is this part and are they expensive.
2nd i a going to do an oil change but no idea what oil is best to use with this engine.

hope you can help...

If you have a look at the photos on this here thread...viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3489&start=0 ....it might help to show what the part is. Maybe you could remove it and then go to a scrap yard and match it with another 406 - the engine was fitted to all the 2.0 lx, glx etc..

Oil wise I'd go for a good known make 10w/40 semi-synthetic (maybe Castrol or even Comma) and try to use a quality filter like a 'purflux' one from the dealers (about £10.00).
