Auto gearbox dipstick

Post by Scotlad »

Hi folks once again i return to the fount of all 406 knowledge- or summit like that anyway!

According to the good ol' Haynes manual, my car has the 4HP20 auto box as it doesn't have the park lock facility. So far so good except i cant find the auto trans level dipstick that allegedly goes with this box! the other flavour, AL4 doesn't have a dipstick but is supposed to be spottable by the transmission lock, ie needs to have ignition key and footbrake before it will come out of park.

The box is slow to change when cold so i'm gonna do a fluid swop anyway but i'd like some confirmation that the manual is talking crap and there def is/ isn't a dipstick on the box with no transmission lock like mine.

Phew! I hope that actually mmakes sence to someone!

Ta in advance

ServiceBox will tell you what 'box you've got.

Try a search for it on here, or pm me your VIN no. & I'll look it up for you.

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks Dogslife- my first ever visit to servicebox reveals its an AL4 gearbox. I guess the lock thing doesn't work!

I do like servicebox- seems a very useful tool!

Cheers
