2.1TD Exhaust...CAT or no CAT?

Post by Mountain »

Hi,

The exhaust on my 2.1TD has been changed in the past but it seems they had not put on the middle support(something I hadn't noticed!)....probably Thick-Fit or something! The consequence has been the joint from the middle section to the Cat taking all the weight. A bit of corrosion, one too many speed bumps and hey presto, the Cat has snapped just before where the middle section fits into it. The mid section is rotten at the other end.

Anyway, to the point.
I need a new Cat and a new mid section.

However, I notice that there are 2 differing front sections that fit my engine type & year. Mid section is the same part code regardless, but there seems to be a Cat or bog standard silencer option for the front section. The Cat is obviously lots more expensive.

So,
Is there any reason why I shouldn't just go for the cheaper option?

Is there any variance in the manifolds?

Both listed as this
"Peugeot 406 2.1 TD 7/1996 > 2/1997 (Eng: XUD11BTE) Saloon"

When I had my Xantia 1.9TD, I fitted the non-cat version of front pipe when my cat broke off, If you have the non-cat option I would use it.

The Peugeot and Citroen manifold fitting is usually the same between models, but compare the fitting before you start.
