Hi
It takes 8-10 turns of the key to start in the morning. Once I start it and turn the engine off there's no problem restarting it. Just first thing in the morning. The longer I leave it with the engine off, the harder it is to re-start. If I leave it for 4 hours it takes about 3 turns of the key to start. Overnight 8-10 turns. It's as if the fuel isn't getting into the engine
When I try to start it and I put my foot on the accelerator, this doesn't help either. In fact putting the foot on the accelerator feels as if it extinguishes the starting process.
Also, when I am trying to start it, for a second or 2 after I turn the key the engine chugs for a bit (it doesn't sound healthy) with the rpm way below what it should be.
I hope my explanation helps! Thanks

And your car is a 1998 1.8
Welcome!
As you say, sounds like a fuel problem. I'll suggest fuel pump but I'll leave a better diagnosis to those with experience of your particular lump

This aint the only forum I look at, he posted that on Honest John yesterday (and copied and pasted it here, missing that the header doesn't show what his car is).
I don't think any of this is applicable - FAQ - 406 D8 petrol (Excl. V6) running and starting problem - but it can't hurt to look.
Fuel pump - going weak, when the key is first turned does it run for a second or two? Hmm, I suppose there's a regulator somewhere...
Temperature sensor - if the ecu thinks the engine's hot it'll try and run it close loop with a leaner mixture.
Exhaust blocked (clutching at straws now

Welcome griff!
It could well be muck in the idle air valve, take a look at that thread that Steve mentioned about starting problems.
