Slightly unusual question (about a 607!)

Post by adamp02v6 »

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone might have stumbled upon this info on their travels, unlikely but, you don't ask, you don't get!

My 607 has the 283mm front discs, my dad has the 309mm front discs, I see that the Black Diamond Pad for them both seems to be the same part, so any idea if it would be possible to fit the 309mm disc onto a car that came with the 283mm?

Infact, the pad is the same as it is for the 406 V6! PP302 !

Having had a quick look on Service Box it would appear not. The 309mm front disc is used with a Brembo caliper, so I think that black diamond may have got it wrong.

Hmm, that's odd. The caliper on my dads is nothing like the one on the 406 coupe I know to be the Brembo, it just looks like a normal standard caliper!

Having had a further look, I can only find reference to 283mm discs on all models expect those with Brembo calipers which have the 309mm discs. I suppose Service Box could be lying again...

My Expert van has the 283mm discs fitted, they are listed in the parts books as being the same as the 607.

Would the 309mm ones fit my van? I doubt it very much without changing the calipers, even then, would the wheel fit back on?

The simple answer, if you have a car available with the 309 mm discs and pads, is to try to fit them and see how you go.

hmmmmm! Perhaps my eyes deceive me and they are not 309mm, but they look huge compared to mine. He has the 607 170bhp, unfortunately it's not here at the moment so I can't take a picture, but I will this evening!

Also, there's about as much chance of me taking the brakes off his car to try on mine as there is my walking on the moon, so that's out of the question! :(

The other possibility is that the Brembos come on the v6, but they have some other 2 piston caliper for the smaller engines but with bigger discs, like the setup on the Octavia VRs, which I believe to be 310mm and 2 piston

According to my local brake factor, the bigger discs are 305mm with Brembo calipers and pads, looking on his computer listing the 305 discs should fit the 283 setup.

I suggest that you go into a local factor and get them to look at the listings for yourself and then make up your mind.

305mm hmm!! The plot thickens....

Here is the info I'm going on, for the brakes:

http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/search ... pe=Grooved

I was looking at the Nitrac 8 Groove disks

As you can see they list the 2 different sizes and also, the tarox discs list support for the HDis etc under just the 309mm!!

I'm so confused, I'd speak to a dealer but I know what their response would be!

I think I'll do as you say and speak to a factors for some parts/price info

Going round in circles here :D.Got a second opinion with the answer that 309mm is the correct size, these guys were not sure if they would fit.
Maybe go ask a factor like I said, I'm a bit lost myself now :?

Right, having had a further look on Service Box, I'm assuming that your dad's is a late model and yours in an earlier model? If so, his are 330mm discs running 2 pot calipers like you've said to your 283mm discs and 1 pot claipers. I've got a feeling that if you wanted to upgrade to the same setup as you dad, you would also need the calipers and possibly front hubs (not sure whether there's any difference). The calipers are £150 inc VAT each new from Peugeot incidentally.

Yeah he has a 2007 HDi 170, I have a 2003 HDi 136 (Difference in low end power is amazing by the way!)

I thought about it logically and looked at the distance between the outside edge of the disc and the caliper and there's no way i'd fit anything bigger in there, i asked the supplier to look into it for me and they came back with the same answer, so i got 283mm Black diamond discs and pads!

Thanks all for looking!

p.s., 330mm discs, is that right HimBigChief!!!??
