406 2.1td bushes / service jobs

Post by locoboy »

Guys after giving my car a once over this weekend i have a few jobs to do as a result.

I need a new lower engine mounting, possibly a new gearbox mounting but i will see how the lovwer one changes things first of all.

I also need new rear bushes for the lower suspension arms on the front.

This is the rear suspension bush, are these a pain to change or not? - as with so many bushues its easier to change the whole arm (if it comes complete with bushes) than fanny about struggling to change the bushes its self - is this the case?

Also i want to change the gearbox oil too, is the gearbox oil shared between the g/box and the diff?

If so this is the drain plug right?

Can anyone advise how much i should be putting back in - its a 2.1td 1998.

Also i cant for the life of me find a bloody filler hole, can i fill it through here - the reversing light switch?

Many thanks guys.

I'll have to dig out my pics for you. The o/s driveshaft is a pig to remove if you don't know how. Probably a lot easier with only one exhaust pipe instead of the V6's 3 in the way, but still awkward

Yes

Yes.

My V6 needs 1.9 litres, probably the same for yours, but I'd check If I were you. Got a Haynes to hand?

The filler's on the back of the diff - almost completely inaccessible and useless unless you've got a completely level lift, a way of getting oil in against gravity and don't mind spilling loads of gear oil on the floor. Use what you correctly identified as the reverse switch. MUCH easier.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
