cam belt change

i am soon going to book my pug into a garage to have the timing belt changed 2.0 hdi 2003, i was wandering what sort of price am i looking at paying for this sort of job :(

Well, at my local garage they charged me £250 and thats for Complete Cambelt Kit and fitment of WaterPump which i purchased cheaper elsewhere. 8) What i suggest you do is to shop round and get quotes, you will be surprised :D

I can do most things on cars confidently, apart from Brakes & Timing Belts.

Something Ive never tried incase I mess it up!

What is annoying, is the cost of parts Inc the belt kit, waterpump and crankshaft pulley(If needing to replaced) is only about £70-100 IIRC?

The rest if the dreaded labour...

The cost isnt too bad though if you work out you have 76k (correct for HDI?) or 4 or 6 years (??) for the belt interval

Brakes are easy peasy (apart from the handbrake shoes which are incredibly frustrating) - see my howto for the rears. The fronts are even easier :)

The crankshaft pulley from the dealers is £89 on its own (trade price). Ebay may be cheaper, but I don't buy parts from Ebay.

Managed to get mine brand new in a Peugeot box for £7 delivered off ebay 8) 8) 8)

When things are that price, it'd be rude not to, even if it doesn't actually need replacing :lol:

Try TMS motor spares.

I have a 53 plate 2004 HDi 90 S and got a genuine corteco crankshaft pulley for £48 inclusive of VAT

Gates timing belt kit was £58. I use them because they are 2 minutes from my house, but I have been hard pushed to find anyone cheaper.

Timing belt is fairly straight forward. Most difficult part is removing the cranks shaft pulley. You will need an Impact wrench or a fly wheel locking tooth.

Don't bother disconecting the exhaust manifold and flexible down pipe as per Haynes manual, just make sure you support the block.
